Communications strategy for Friends of the Red Cedar River
Collaborated with Samantha Ward, Brittany Boza, Caroline White, and Jintao Nao We were asked to create a communication strategy for volunteer recruitment for a non-profit organization. I helped to create the overall strategy, but I was also responsible for creating the key messages of our communications strategy, deciding which modes and media to use to implement the strategy, and designing the final document. I decided that the key messages of our strategy should change as student volunteers moved through the stages of the organization, because their attitudes about service would change throughout the stages. In regards to social media, I made the decision for the organization to only use Facebook to promote volunteer events, taking into account the current function of events on the Facebook news feed. |
Content strategy for the professional writing website at Michigan State University
Collaborated with Brittney Urich, Jade Wiselogle, and Austin Truchan Our goal for the professional writing website was an easy navigable, informative, useful, and creative space for prospective students and their parents to visit when deciding on majors at MSU. This strategy was created by interviewing professional writing majors, college freshmen, and major stakeholders in the website (such as the chair of the department). We also completed competitive analyses on other websites of similar majors to find best practices for undergraduate websites. |

Rhetorical analysis of the social media of The Ocean Conservancy
This analysis examined how a nonprofit used its social media accounts to not only reach its audience, but persuade them in different ways. By analyzing these communications, I learned how a nonprofit can have different approaches for each social media account, but still promote the same mission and vision overall across their brand. |
Communication audit on The National MS Society
For this audit, I examined many of the external communications of The National MS Society, and highlighted what each piece of communication did for the company. These auditing skills have helped me to improve my own communications and writing, making sure that everything I create for a company has a purpose. |
